Information about the prototype
Even the Initial test runs showed that the new locomotive not only met but exceeded all expectations. The locomotive ran very smoothly even at high speeds, and the boiler always supplied sufficient steam for the well-balanced four-cylinder engine. In July 1907, a record speed of 154.4 km/h was finally achieved during test runs between Munich and Augsburg. No steam locomotive on the European mainland had ever traveled faster. At the time of its commissioning and the sensational record runs of 1906, the S 2/6 sported an elegant grey livery. The boiler was clad with "Russian polished metal sheets".
