Information about the prototype

Even the first test runs showed that the new locomotive not only met but exceeded all expectations. The locomotive ran very smoothly even at high speeds, the boiler always supplying sufficient steam for the well-balanced four-cylinder engine. In July 1907, during test runs between Munich and Augsburg, a record speed of 154.4 km/h was finally achieved. No steam locomotive on the European mainland had ever traveled faster. At the time of its commissioning and the sensational record runs of 1906, the S 2/6 sported an elegant gray livery. The boiler was clad with "Russian-style" sheet metal.
