In addition to the 103 series, the 112 series in beige-red paint was certainly one of the most elegant appearances in the DB fleet of the 1970s and 80s.
To pull the Rheingold trains and the Rheinpfeil group, which had converted to locomotive-hauled sets, the DB put six E 10.1s (E 10 1239–1244) into service in May 1962 with special bogies from Henschel designed for 160 km/h. When the E 10 1265-1270, which were actually intended for these bogies, became available in autumn 1962, the E 10 1239-1244 were converted into the normal version and the E 10 1265-1270 took over these luxury services, together with the E 10, which were delivered shortly afterwards 1308–1312. At the end of the 1960s, the last E 10.12 series followed, the 112 485–504, which were delivered with Krupp bogies designed for 160 km/h.
In November 1994, the 114 504 (ex 112 504) was renumbered to 110 504 and was used in local transport in the Stuttgart area. The locomotive was often photographed by railway fans due to its special paintwork.
