Narrow gauge steam locomotive 399.01 of the Austrian Federal Railways.
Shape variant!
¢£ Operating condition: 1990s on the Pinzgauer Lokalbahn
¢£ Special series ¡ÈPinzgauer Lokalbahn¡É
At the beginning of the 20th century, powerful narrow-gauge support tender locomotives of the Mh series were purchased for the Mariazellerbahn mountain line. The high number of passengers led to the electrification of the route to Mariazell and Gusswerk after just a few years. As a result, the Mh, which had been redesignated to the 399 series by the ÖBB in 1953, were also used on other Austrian narrow-gauge railways. After 1990 they were gradually incorporated into the ÖBB nostalgia.
The 399.01, the oldest machine in this series, was in use in the Waldviertel for many years. In the 1990s it was used on the attractive Pinzgau local railway with the special steam trains. The Pinzgauer Lokalbahn route runs through one of Austria's most popular tourist regions from Zell am See through the upper Salzach Valley to Krimml. The impressive Krimml waterfalls ensure brisk tourist traffic.
