The timetable change in 1995 was the birth of the Donau-Kurier night train, then still called EN222/223, but already completely formed from CityNightline carriages. Two years later, the train route was slightly adjusted, the fleet was extended and the train number changed to CNL 212/213. The Donau-Kurier from Dortmund to Vienna stopped in Essen, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Bonn, Mainz, Frankfurt/Main, Mannheim, Salzburg and Linz along the way. The Donau-Kurier was usually pulled by class 101 electric locomotives.
