WHAT HAPPENED IF...?
The Bavarian S 3/6, often referred to as the "Queen of Steam Locomotives", bore the brunt of German express train traffic until the appearance of the class 01. Not only was it continued to be built after 1931, but also because cross-country skiing could be expected of it, which the 01 could not endure without being cleaned up. And if someone thinks that a Bavarian locomotive only ran in Bavaria during the Bundesbahn era, they are wrong. The Bavarian machines hauled just about every train that was of any rank and repute.
Although most of the S 3/6 series a to c were retired in 1950, it seems realistic that one of these legendary express train locomotives, like some of its younger sisters, got hold of a DB biscuit and continued to be cherished and cared for as an irreplaceable machine by an enthusiastic locomotive crew .
