After World War II there was a high demand for new electric locomotives to supply older steam locomotives in a timely manner to be able to replace. This led u.a. for the development of the new locomotive Rh 1041. Between 1951 and 1953 25 specimens of the up to 90 km / h fast (but only for 80 km / h approved) and 83 tons heavy Rh 1041 with axle formula Bo'Bo 'in service and u.a. stationed in Attnang-Puchheim, Selzthal and Bischofshofen.
