ÖBB electric locomotive 1040 007-5, new side ventilation grilles, blood-orange livery with three decorative stripes, low roof, shunting steps at the front and rear, Era V with built-in DCC sound decoder.

After the Second World War, the re-established Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) carried out a comprehensive electrification program. This led to the construction of the 1040 series, which was based on the 1045, 1145, and 1245 series. Thus, Austria's first post-war locomotive was created.

Initially, the locomotives were used to haul express and freight trains; however, the former proved too demanding for the engines in the long run. Later, they were relegated from express service and relegated to secondary duties. The last locomotives of the 1040 series were finally retired in 2003.

The new Rivarossi models HR2939/S (1040.10) and HR2940/S (1040 007-5) are partially redesigned and now feature the multi-nozzle ventilation grilles on their side walls, as seen on locomotives 1040.07, 1040.10, and 1040.15. The new model is powered by a skew-wound five-pole motor with flywheels on all four axles, ensuring excellent running characteristics. It also features a NEM 662 (Next-18) digital interface, current collector contacts on all eight wheels, sprung metal buffers, robust yet delicate pantographs, and separately applied metal grab irons. True to the prototype, the Sécheron spring drive is engraved on the wheel discs. The sound-equipped version, HR2940S, comes with a ZIMO sound decoder. The sounds were created specifically for Rivarossi from unique sound recordings of the ÖBB's 1040 series.
