Since the timetable change on December 13, 2015, DB Fernverkehr has been operating IC 2 trains – modern double-decker trains of the TWINDEXX Vario type, developed by Bombardier. The first 27 trains were ordered in 2010, with another 17 following in 2015. With a top speed of 160 km/h, they are intended to gradually replace the existing IC trains.
