Just a few days after the end of the war in May 1945, the so-called "zero hour," the reconstruction of devastated Germany and Europe began. All vehicles that were still operational were used to get trains running again on the damaged rail network. The new state railways had not yet been established, so all available locomotives were put into service.

This model depicts the Class 42 locomotive in its original winter camouflage, dirty and rusty, but operational. It represents the transition period from Era II to Era III.
