The Class 64 standard passenger tender locomotives were developed by the German Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft from 1926 onwards. As of July 1, 1950, the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) had exactly 129 locomotives listed in its maintenance inventory.
64 1455 was handed over from the Jerichow depot to the Salzwedel depot in 1972. There she was used in front of special trains for the farewell journeys of 24 009 and 37 1009, which both locomotives hauled together.
