The electric locomotives of the Ae 3/6ˡ series were procured in several orders from 1921 to 1929. Locomotive 10664 comes from the workshops of the SLM and the BBC. Due to the long procurement time, technical innovations were also installed. This increased the power of the locomotives from 1,450 kW to 1,600 kW. Thanks to the good running characteristics, the maximum speed could also be increased. From 1929 from 90 km/h to 100 km/h and for the more powerful locomotives (from No. 10637) in 1937, after adjustments to the trailer axle bogie, to 110 km/h.
Locomotive 10664, built in 1926, was based in the Bern, Zurich and Rohrschach depots. From 1990 to 2010 it was used as a historic locomotive by the "Right Bank of Zurich Railway Friends". It is still housed in the Rapperswil depot as an operational historic vehicle and is the property of the SBB Historical Heritage Foundation (SBB Historic).
