L5 diesel-electric double locomotive of the Dutch State Railways.

As one of a total of four double locomotives of the type D 311, this locomotive was put into service by the German Wehrmacht in 1942 as D 311.04. It was intended for use with the “Schwerer Gustav 2” gun. However, this gun was not completed, so the locomotive was used in the Calais area.
In September 1944, the locomotive ran aground on Dutch territory and was claimed as spoils of war by the Dutch State Railways. The attempt to get the locomotive operational again failed due to missing parts. After being brokered by a Haarlem scrap dealer, the locomotive returned to Germany, where it was put into service in 1950/51 as V 188 002 and was in operation in the Franconian region until 1972.
