The U 43 of the Murtalbahn is a locomotive that has always belonged to the STLB. From the beginning it ran on the “Murtalbahn Unzmarkt – Mauterndorf”, as the line was called after it was no longer operated by the k.k. State railways, but was managed by the Steiermärkische Landesbahnen. The railway was later called the “Gaueisenbahn” for a while.
After the First World War, the locomotive had to be handed over to the Bosnian State Railways in 1914, but was returned to the Murtalbahn in 1918
back. After the war, the machine was sometimes fired with wood or even peat (especially during the descent) - but it has survived all adversities to this day!
