Electric locomotive CC 21003 of the SNCF, epoch IV
This small series of 4 locomotives, numbered CC 21001 to CC 21004, is a dual-current version of the SNCF CC 6500 locomotives.
Dedicated to the Dijon-Perrigny depot, they are mainly used on the Paris-Dijon-Vallorbe axis to haul express and express trains, including the Trans-Europ Express "Cisalpin". Like the CC 6500, they have the "Grand Confort" livery in red and gray, underlined by an orange stripe.
CC 21003, delivered to SNCF in 1974, took part in a test campaign in the United States of America in 1977 under registration X 996 AMTRAK, with the specific DC equipment removed. After testing and returning to France, the vehicle was restored to its original condition. Faced with competition from the Paris-Lausanne and Berne TGV three-current trains, the 4 CC 21000 locomotives were finally stripped of the 25 kV AC equipment between 1995 and 1996. On this occasion they were renumbered CC 6575 to CC 6578. These 4 locomotives were retired between 2005 and 2007.
