The EW IV standard wagons were delivered to the SBB from 1981 and, with over 500 units, form one of the largest Swiss wagon fleets. The car body is made of welded lightweight steel construction. The cars are very popular with travelers because of the spacious interior with face-to-face seating and the smooth running characteristics even at high speeds. The EW-IV wagons, with various modernizations, are still in use throughout practically all of Switzerland today.
